2006-2007 was the second year of operation and the focus was on the organizational structure necessary to a successful not for profit organization.

Directors/Officers Liability Insurance was purchased.

Articles of Incorporation and By Laws were reviewed, revised and approved by the Board Of Directors.

Occupancy Agreement and Waiver of Liability was developed for all persons using Landfall Cottage.

The Landfall web site (www.landfalltrust.org) was developed with an email address. While this is still a work in progress it has been most useful with several enquiries being made through this channel. This work has been done on a voluntary basis by Ric Earle, a former student of Jake’s.

Application for Charitable Status was completed and submitted to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in November 2006. An imminent response is anticipated.

Extensive work was done on a fund development plan with completion pending approval of CRA application.

Application has been made for the Crown Land on the periphery of the Landfall property.

The Artist In Residence program was shared by two artists, Sylvia Bendzsa of St. John’s and Cecil Day of Port Maitland, N.S. From all reports this arrangement was very successful. Both artists did workshops in the community, which were well received

Carolyn Harrison of Quebec and Jill Boschulte of Ontario were in residence at the cottage in September. . At the end of the month they held an art exhibit and sale at St. George’s Heritage Church.

The cottage was rented for nine weeks during July, August and September 2006.

During the summer we were fortunate to have a summer student under HRSDC summer student program. Josh Skanes did general maintenance around the property and helped at the Wilcox Gardens.

Improvements made to the cottage included the removal of the partition between the kitchen and living room and the painting of the floors and ceilings on the main level.

A pump was installed to increase the water pressure in the cottage.

As the 2007 summer season approaches we are confident we will have another successful residence Program and two other artists and a writer will be in residence during the summer. The cottage is booked for two “retreats” and only a couple of weeks remain vacant. All inquiries have been unsolicited.

Respectfully submitted,

Tom Burke
President
